Conversation gets started with the weather, leads through health and security and ends up, finally, dealing with the essence – love.

There are six men from the Swiss mountains and valleys near Muotathal (Schwyz), which are known for their ability to 'smell' or 'taste' the weather, each of them in their own ways. As I spent some time with these men, I got to know what immense social value this 'label' had to them. Often the Wetterschmecker would be invited in by locals, and as a reward for their prediction, receive some nice words and a coffee or a meal.

Karl Reichmuth

is reading from the itinerancy of the game.

Peter Sutter

is listening to the songs of the waterfall behind his house and to the sounds of the winds. He is the most versed of the weather prophets when it comes to the reading of cloud formations.

Karl Hediger

is reading from the fur and horns of his cows and from snail shells he finds.

Martin Holderner

reads from the activity of the field mouse.

Alois Holdener

reads from trees. Since the moment one fell on him, he seems to be familiar with them. He also says that people are like trees, as they never choose where they'll be landing (being born). If you land on a stone, you'll have to deal with it in order to survive.

Martin Horat

predicts the weather by placing his body in an anthill, looking at ants and smelling their piss.
